In this unit I learned a lot about English pronunciation and why it is so difficult for some teachers to cover this subject in our lessons: it includes many aspects that go from individual sounds, their representation in the phonemic alphabet, to the fall or rise of the speech, and it also varies so much depending on the context. The unit contains very useful techniques that we can use to indicate and teach intonation and stress, sound joining, linked speech and individual sounds as well as detailed information about the phonemic alphabet and articulation of sounds in English.
This unit has been the most complex of the course to study for me, until now, even I had learned about this subject in college. I think it’s great that this topic is fully covered as it helped me refresh some knowledge I had neglected, as we tend to do it when we focus our classes in gramar or conversation production, for example. I had to dedicate more time to study it, especially about the parts on phonemes’ production and articulation of consonants, which I think represents one of the difficulties we face when we teach pronunciation lessons. From no won I will definitely pay more attention to this matter in my classes, so that my students can have more complete learning and I think now after studying this unit, I will have more confidence to teach pronunciation methodically.
