Unit eight covered the future tenses. For each tense form, usage, mistakes and teaching ideas were given. The future simple tense indicates actions in the future. The tense is used for promises, future facts, threats, speculations, predictions with no evidence and spontaneous decisions. Some teaching ideas given are predicting what others will be like, fortune telling, and predicting future changes. The future perfect form is used to talk about an action in the future that will be completed by a point in the future. The future continuous tense is used to indicate an action that is in progress at a specific time in the future. It is used for polite inquiries and refers to future events that are decided. An example activity given is using a planner to arrange plans between two people. The future perfect continuous tense is used to talk about the duration of an action that had been taking place up until a specific point in the future. An activity for this tense is doing a survey. The ‘going to’ future tense was also covered. It is used to express plans that have already been decided before the time of speaking. It is also used for predictions with evidence. Lastly, the present continuous and present simple form were covered. The first one is used for future arrangements while the second is used with a future meaning and is used for scheduled events.
In this unit, I have learned about the future tenses and how each one is used, as well as the structure for each tense. I have learned about some activities that I can give students to practice the tense.
