Managing a class needs to be approached from many perspectives. It needs to allow a better cohesiveness for the class as a whole, allowing for a good learning environment. It also needs to be comfortable to allow students to communicate with one another. There are many ways of how and what can be done but depending on the situation, class size, and many more factors, they must be flexible. For example, orderly rows may be better for larger classes or the Study sessions whereas circle seating may be better for Engage, Activate, or just smaller classes. The teacher should make sure that the students are participating and motivated while also treated equally. At the same time, they need to establish a baseline of discipline to minimize unruly and problematic behavior without insulting the student. In a foreign language class especially, participation become very important. It is also essential to maximize student talk time in these classes. This can be done by introducing communicative games, following up on questions, and many more. The teacher also must build rapport in the classroom as it will help with the cohesiveness of the class as well as the respect of students both for the teacher and for each other. Therefore, the teacher has to act as a role model both in the language and as a person.
