Unit 1 reflects the information on what makes a “good teacher” and what makes a “good learner”. There are some characteristics that a “good teacher” should possess, like be a good manager and motivator in the class, know the subject well and serve as a model for students, build a good communication and rapport with the class. Describing a “good learner” we need to note that there is a number of factors that helps a student to become a successful learner, such as willingness to study and experiment with the language, while being not afraid to face some mistakes and accept their correction. Besides, the Unit explains that the teacher should pay attention to students’ age and cultural differences, their experience and motivation particularities. It is also important for the teacher to know the learners’ language level and ability to suit the teaching environment, while being allocated to one of the following language groups: beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate or advanced. Combination of all of these important issues can help to bring fruitful results and form a “good teacher” as well as a “good learner”.
