Unit 1 covered the qualities, responsibilities, and roles of teachers and students. The first section covered the good qualities of a teacher. It comes down to the teacher caring not only about his or her teaching but also caring about the learning of their students. The second section covered the different roles of a teacher during a lesson. This section stated that some stages of a lesson will be centered on the teacher while others will be centered on the students depending on the activity. The third section covered the qualities that a learner has and the teachers' responsibility to encourage those qualities. Unit 1 also covered the difference between adults and young learners. A different section covered the motivation and the role the teacher plays in ensuring that the lessons are interesting, useful and fun in order to motivate the student.
I have learned the importance and complexity of the relationship between teachers and learners. As well as the different roles a teacher must take on to be a good teacher. I have also learned about some of the differences between adult and young learners, which will be useful to me when interacting with the learners. Unit 1 has shown me the teachers responsibility to make the lessons enjoyable, useful and interesting in order to maintain or increase motivation in a young or adult learner.
