The simple past tense is used to express completed actions in the past. It shows the completed past actions at a definite time. The regular verbs use ‘d’ or ‘ed’. The irregular verbs change its form. The past tense is used for ordering sentences. The past continuous tense is used to show a certain action that was in progress at a particular time in the past. The affirmative form uses subject +auxiliary verb+verb+ing. The negative form uses subject+ auxiliary verb+ not + verb+ ing. The question uses the reverse form. The past perfect refers to a past action and a related past action before that. It uses subject and had and the past participle. The past perfect continuous shows the continuing action in the past up until an action in the past. This uses subject and ‘had been’ and then the verb+ing.
