Kennebunkport, Maine TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
Unit 12 we discussed the other side of the basic language skills, not the perceptive skill but the productive skills. Productive skills in the English language are writing and speaking. Both are equally important but in many cases writing is neglected in the TEFL world both by students and teachers, some might feel it burns class time, time for exposure. Especially when students from countries where they don’t use the same alphabetical order in their native language have great difficulty; some languages have different punctual rules or none at all, some write without space, from right to left. Many reason to require special training in writing. Under writing skills we think of handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing. All writing skills were clearly explained and teaching ideas were given. Speaking requires a degree of fluency unlike writings’ requirement for accuracy. Both require communication activities, when we as teachers do so it is important to create a desire in student to communicate and factor in the communicative purposes. This unit also discussed different speaking games; controlled activities, guided activities and creative communication activities. We look at a typical free/creative speaking activity using the ‘straight arrow’ structure and their guide line before lesson, during activities, evaluation time and after activity time. Finally unit 12 brought up the importance of games, games are liked by all ages. The element of fun in a competitive or co-operative way is very appealing and encourage student to participate. Not only did that last paragraph speak about games many examples were given to evaluate online.
