This unit examined the various roles and responsibilities a teacher takes during a lecture. The unit also looks at the motivation behind why students want to learn English and the various levels of comprehension a student may reach while learning the language. From this lesson, I learned that a good teacher is kind, patient and knowledgeable of the subject matter. Perhaps the most important quality of a good teacher is someone who has a love for teaching because if a teacher cannot find the motivation to spread knowledge, how can they expect their students to find the motivation to learn? A teacher can take on many roles to motivate students from being the model or point of reference on how English is spoken to being a facilitator in organizing activities and projects to help maintain a student’s focus and motivation on learning the topic. A good learner is motivated to listen to the teacher’s lesson and is unafraid to ask questions and experiment with the language. Motivation for learners varies by age, and ranges from career needs to improving grades at school. Various levels of learning are assigned to learners to help distinguish their abilities in the English language.
