I learnt that there are various factors that affect students’ learning of vocabulary, grammar and their functions. All factors need to considered before planning a new lesson including the words’ similarity to their native language and or other English word that they already know as well as the level of pronunciation and spelling difficulty. Also in teaching, there are elements that must be included but there are unnecessary ones that do not require to be taught. I often get hung up on the origin of the words, but I should not require students to learn the origin of words. Also, I learnt that for vocabulary lessons, straight arrow approach is most often used and for grammar lessons patchwork ESA structure is more often adopted. It is interesting to see how different teaching methods and structures can affect different teaching subjects.
