The unit explained different theories of teaching which vary in style and emphasis - grammar-translation perhaps focuses on the relationship of English with the students’ L1, whereas Audio-liguslism, Presentstion, Practice, Production, Communicative Language Teaching, Community Language Learning, lexical approach and etcetra focuses more on students’ absorption of English on its own and its direct application. I see that many prefer unemphasis on translational approach however I believe both elements are quite necessary for an effective and productive learning. Therefore it is not necessary to restrict the learning of English in its relationship with students’ first language. This is because If students are able to see the usefulness of their Translation ability in their daily living as well as in their L1 workplace and among their peers in schools, this will give a greater encouragement than if the student was learning English in isolation from their first language. The overall method of Enage Study and Activate and different activities for each stage works very well to keep the students engaged and fresh in learning. I learnt that the most important thing in encouraging students is not to discourage them by remembering when to correct and not to over-correct their mistakes and errors.
