Teaching a new language to the students focuses on teaching vocabulary, grammar structures and teaching language functions. Students need to be exposed to a new language, understand it's meaning, how it's constructed and then practice it to successfully further their knowledge. While teaching vocabulary it is important to emphasize the meaning, use, grammar, interaction and the spelling and pronunciation. You can do so with realia or showing pictures of the object, then doing matching or fill in the blank and finally role playing or story building. The combination of those activities will strengthen their understanding and reinforce the word they learned. It is important to teach the meaning, use, forms and patterns and spoken/ written form when teaching grammar structures. Teachers can use similar activities that they used for teaching vocabulary or they can use discussion, miming then crosswords or matching and finally debating during their grammar lesson. Language functions is how to invite someone to do something, refusing an invitation, agreeing to a suggestion or suggesting something. In this unit, I learned the importance of grammar because it is the base and structure of the language so the students can build upon their knowledge with vocabulary.
