The final unit focused on what to do in the first lesson and general troubleshooting with large classes, reluctant students and difficulties with listening texts. The first lesson sets the tone for the rest of the year so it's important to establish rapport between the students and the students and the teacher. The teacher should find out what the students are interested in using a questionnaire or survey so they can use that knowledge for the following lesson plans. The teacher also needs to see what needs/ levels all of the students are at individually to better help them throughout the class. Warm up games encourage the kids to gently start thinking in English and establish a fun learning environment at the beginning of class. If you have a large class and/or there are different language levels in your class then you can use pair work where you pair a strong student with a weak student or use different materials for the different language groups. If there are shy students, teachers can have them practice speaking on a tape recorder at home and then listen later or use pair work so the student isn't speaking in front of a large group.
