This unit has lots of useful hints and tips that will be of great help when planning lessons. The video has some really good advice on how to use the Board efficiently and to great effect. Making a plan before hand on where the information will go on the board, the use of tables and columns to separate different areas of the work and the use of colour are good tips. Remember to use print and separate all the letters so it will be easier for the students to read and only put the essential information on the board. This advice was demonstrated very well in the previous unit during the Pronunciation Class video.
Some very useful examples of different types of created materials are provided in this unit. There are some good ideas for lessons and the telephone role-play cards will come in very handy.
There was a lot of useful discussion on the use of Course books. Advantages, disadvantages and how best to use them. The best piece of advice offered is "Don't regard the course book as the solution to everything. Try out new ideas and vary the activities."
We are also told not to allow the students to over-use dictionaries in class but do provide homework activities that allow them to use their dictionaries.
