Unit 1 Teachers and Learners.
We find out about the qualities of a 'good' teacher and what his/her various roles are in the classroom. Personality, the ability to motivate and a love of teaching are very important. Confidence when organizing activities and a respectful manner when giving feedback and correction are vital.
General characteristics of successful learners are looked at. Such things as age, previous learning experiences, cultural differences and the first language of the students are important factors when assessing the needs of the students.
Comparing cultures is fascinating and some knowledge about different languages will be invaluable when trying to teach English pronunciation.
The table showing the three categories of Young Learners and their 'Motivation', 'Experiences' and 'Behaviour' was very interesting and will no doubt prove valuable in the future!
The section showing how to categorize the different levels of language ability was especially useful as I was unsure about that.
There was a lot of useful information in this first unit that will hopefully help me to become a 'great' teacher with 'great' students!
