This unit was useful to set the scene for the subsequent units. My previous knowledge regarding what makes a 'good' student and teacher has been consolidated and I will be able to use the 'good teacher' criteria as a checklist for myself when teaching.
I found the CEF a useful guide for assessing student ability in a consistent way and hope I'll be able to use this as a standardised indicator in future teaching roles.
The part of the unit I found most interesting was the breakdown of types of teaching practice, as I hadn't considered the subtle differences between each prior to this unit. I feel that it is important for all teachers to vary their practices in lessons to keep students engaged and agile learners. The list and description provides an overview of how a teacher might carry out these different roles and how important they are in their own way. I feel that the role of 'prompter' may be the most challenging as it is vital to prompt as a way of encouraging students and helping them learn, without impacting their confidence or willingness to put their hand up in the future.
