This unit provided various commonly practiced teaching forms, focusing mostly on ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) as the preferred teaching method for ESL. ESA elicits students to use the language in a natural way by encouraging participation in the lesson through increased student talk time, focusing on allowing a natural flow of the lesson over drilling and strict corrections. The teacher uses the "study" portion of the lesson to focus on more technical language issues, corrections, etc., with more time being spent on the "Engage" and "Activate" portions of the lessons, where students are encouraged to use language more freely and with the ability to be more creative and flexible, thus learning in a way that is natural, interesting and fun.
