In any language we have four basic skills and they are divide into two groups: receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing). The focus in this unit is on the receptive skills – reading and listening. Reasons and motive for reading and listening can be different, and we can divide them into two categories: for a purpose (when we want to achieve some goal) and for entertainment (when we find that something enjoyable and pleasurable). Reading and listening are not simply matters of eyes and ears, but also a matter of using our minds to literally understand words and process them in our preexistent knowledge to gain true understanding. Readers and listeners should have special skills and their understanding depends of expertise in these areas: predictive skills, specific information, general idea, detailed information and deduction from context. I learned there are different ways of approaching the lesson and which are the basic keys to successful receptive skill lessons. First, teachers should motivate student choosing interesting topic. Create interest and engaged them in the task by discussing is the next step. Using variety of materials during lecturing is also very important, can keep their attention very successfully and practice different skills. Teachers should choose good task for students, not to easy and not too difficult, but enough challenging for students and realistically achievable.
