I believe the content of this unit conveyed the complexities of learning English grammar. Why? Because for nearly every rule in the English language, there is at least one exception. It is easy to see how challenging it is for an English language learner to absorb the intracacies of grammar, and how it can also be a challenge for the teacher to effectively convey them. The backbone of this unit are these parts of speech: articles (the/a/an), nouns (person/place/thing/idea), verbs (words of action/being/linking), adverbs (describe verbs), adjectives (describe nouns), prepositions (words of spatial relations), conjunctions (linking words), gerunds (verb words used as a noun), and pronouns (replacement words for personal nouns). Within each of those speech parts there are several types, categories or subsections.
I think it is important that teachers of English language be thoroughly well versed in grammar. Because it is such complicated material, it is imperative that teachers know their subject matter exceedingly well so they may be confident, sure and accurate in their answers when questions and confusions may arise from students.
