This unit focuses on classroom management, an important component of student learning and inspiring confidence in them Many factors figure into the environment of a classroom: eye contact (enough to project confidence but no staring or over monitoring) gestures (which should be used only if the meaning is apparent), proper tone of voice (clear projection and variety in tone.) The way a teacher groups the students requires some considerate thought whether it be whole class, pairs, small groups, or individually; the way they are seated matters too (rows, circles, horseshoes, or tables.) How a teacher places herself is important, and sometimes it is better to stand (as when giving instruction) and sometimes it is better to sit (as when students are reading). A teacher should be mindful of her talking time as well as the students, and how she gives instructions, using student names and writes on the board. Discipline problems can occur in a classroom due to several reasons from family problems to boredom and prevention can be key. That can be done largely by establishing rapport with one's students. Mutual respect and a well run classroom are vitally important for the greatest amount of learning to occur.
