Focusing on modal auxiliary verbs and the passive verb this unit dives into the details of its usage and the phrasal verbs and relatives clauses. The modals are can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't, and ought to. These are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. There are used to express obligations, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability, and advice. Role playing is a good activity to get the students practicing using modal auxiliry verbs. In passive the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. An example would be "the wallpaper was chosen by my wife". Relative clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. The three types are Independent clause-A complete sentence. Dependent clause- Not complete sentence and needs an independent clause. Relative clause- is a dependent clause that modifies a noun. A phrasal verb consist of a verb plus one or two particles. A particle may be a preposition, or an adverb plus a preposition.
