In Unit 11, it taught about receptive skills. The two receptive skills are reading and listening. The unit explained how to teach receptive skills by using the ESA teaching method. There are two different motives to why we read and listen. Firstly, for a purpose, to help us achieve a goal. Secondly, for entertainment, things we read or listen that we find pleasurable.
The reading skills that I use to know is just skimming and scanning however in this unit it explained a few more ways to employ when we read or listen. One of the interesting skill is predictive skills for example, predicting the content from a headline.
One important teaching aspect I learnt is to pre-teach students the difficult vocabularies so that the reading will be read smoothly by the students.
