Lesson 6 focused on the rules and usages of the past tense. There are 4 tenses we use to describe the past: the past simple, past perfect, past continuous and past perfect continuous. This reading listed the different forms of each tense, gave great examples to demonstrate when to use each tense, showed common mistakes that students make and also provided a variety of activities to help students practice using the past tense. This chapter was very similar to the chapter that focused on the rules of the present tense and even though English is my native language, I was surprised to learn that the structure of past tenses isn't very different from present tenses. Hopefully this will make learning the present and past tenses easier for students. One thing that I loved about the present tense unit and this unit is the affirmative, negative and question formulas/equations that are provided. I think this is a great tool to learn how to form a sentence using different past tenses. I also really appreciate all the activities that are listed because studying grammar isn't always fun but I think these games are creative and will make students want to experiment with the past tense. Lastly, it's nice to see common mistakes made my students when using past tenses so I can be prepared to help and make corrections in the future.
