In this unit, I learned about the theories, methods and techniques for teaching. The main focus of the unit was on ESA lessons. ESA stands for, engage, study and activate. All three of these methods should be used throughout a lesson. The order in which we can teach these will vary depending on the activity and the amount of students in the class. The most straight forward order is 'Straight Arrow' which goes as follows, Engage, Study, and then Activate. There is also the 'Boomerang' sequence which follows the sequence Engage, Activate 1, Study, and lastly Activate 2. The final sequence is 'Patchwork' which is quite flexible, however, as long as the sequence starts with an Engage and ends with and Activate, the order of what happens in the middle does not matter. In this unit, I learned various methods to structure my class properly and also the appropriate methods in which to grade and correct students.
