Well, this unit is about useful methods, techniques and theories of teaching/learning the language. But to decide which is the best method is very hard because each of them has its minuses and pluses.
I think the teacher can use any of them just the most important thing is to motivate and encourage the students and the learners should be exposed to the language , too. And we need to use all these factors in the classroom. So, an effective method was created by Jeremy Harmer which is called 'ESA'- engage, study and activate.
In this unit are mentioned about 'Straight Arrow', 'Boomerang', 'Patchwork' ESA lessons, too.
There are also some ideas for engage, study and activate phases, such as: introduction prompts, partner information share, fizz-buzz, etc ( engage phase), elicitation, pronunciation, spelling, meaning, word order, analysis(study phase), and role-play, debates, discussion, story building, communication games (activate phase).
All these ideas are very useful to keep the class active and interesting.
