In this lesson, I learned about the materials you can use for lessons. In regards to course books, different teachers have different opinions about how important they are. Some teachers rely on them heavily, while others choose not to use them at all. The advantages of course books include the fact that course books can help provide structure for syllabi, they are generally expected from students, they provide security, they balance grammar, vocabulary and other skills, they are usually tried and tested, and they offer good ideas for inexperienced teachers. Disadvantages can include not meeting the specific needs of all class members, reluctance from students, being outdated, and they can make teachers lazy. If you have a choice of course book you should think about what will motivate students, how long tasks will take, whether to base lessons around them, and you should think about the book in a critical way.
In lessons, you should also use a mix of authentic and inauthentic materials. Authentic materials include things like newspaper articles, menus, magazines and brochures. These materials can be good for more advanced students and can help students be more engaged in the materials. Created materials can help supplement or replace lessons and they can help be tailored specifically to students interests.
