This Unit was about the Video Courses. One showed a failed class and one a successful class. In the first video, the teacher comes in with a bad attitude. He does not set up the lesson at all, so the students have no idea what to expect and therefore cannot answer his multitude of questions, which only increases the frustration of the both of them. He rushes the students, using phrases such as "quick as you can" when passing out the worksheet and "you've done nothing" after only a few minutes. He often ridicules and demeans the students and uses phrases such as "you're wrong" multiple times, showing his exasperation. He doesn't do a good job of explaining anything the whole lesson, does not explain the activity he has them end with, and leaves abruptly after hijacking the activity from some very nervous and confused students. The second lesson, on the other hand, showed a teacher who clearly followed a lesson plan, starting with an easygoing engaging activity where he doesn't jump down the students throat for mistakes (as the first one did). He praises the students instead of demeaning them, and does not reprimand those who are late (thereby avoiding added tension in the room as well as wasting time). He addresses students by their names, and never calls out a student for giving a wrong answer. He explains his activity and makes them practice one turn first in order to really gauge their understanding. Overall, though the fact that both lessons were lead by a barefoot man, the differences in student response are huge, showing that a positive, encouraging, patient and organized teacher can completely make or break the success of a class.
