This unit covers the ability to teach receptive skills (listening and reading) to students. It covers the motivation/purpose for reading and listening, specialist skills in reading or listening and various techniques in facilitating receptive skill learning. What I found most useful in this unit were the explanations and examples of specialist skills employed when reading or listening, such as skimming, scanning, deduction, prediction, and detailed information extraction. I found that this section of the unit built upon knowledge previously gained through studying at university.
