Hesperia, Michigan TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit had a great overview of both teachers and learners. Specifically, we learned that good teachers are patient, kind, able to motivate and love teaching, among other things. Good learners have a desire to learn, ask questions, experiment with the language and more. A teacher's role changes depending on the class activities, but teachers need to know when to change their roles and how to do so. A teacher may start the class as a manager, giving explanations, and later move into an organizer and he or she sets up an activity. While all roles are important, I think the most important role is a prompter because this role lets students talk on their own and just helps them along when they are stuck. It's very important in keep the student motivated. Adult learners and young learners are have different qualities and it's important to take advantage of these differences in the classroom. For example, with adults teachers are able to draw on life experience. Young learners tend not to be as nervous, which can help them learn faster. It's important to also be aware of students´ cultures as this could affect the classroom. Finally, we learned how to differentiate between the level of students and what motivates students. Students can be motivated by travel, work, school, and many other things. The important thing is to help keep students motivated so they can learn quickly and effectively.
