Teaching receptive skills are classified as reading and listening skills they are as equally important as writing and speaking. So it must be taught to students with a good balance across all your lessons. People read and listen for a purpose of achieving a goal like an instruction, the other one is for entertainment. But sometimes, it can be a mix of both. This unit also discussed different ways people receive information. It also mentioned potential problems on teaching receptive skills and how to address it. It really helps how the teacher chooses his material, the topics to be discussed, pre-teaching difficult vocabulary to allow students to discover themselves. Providing a good variety of lessons is also effective, implementing realistic tasks that cover all the ESA phases, helping them grasp the language point.
