Pronunciation reflects personal feelings and reactions. It is also a major concern of students. It can even affect the received (perceived) meaning of a word in conversation. Stress, rhythm, and intonation all play a part in phonology. Intonation is variation of pitch in a whole sentence and it carries the sentence’s message. Its normal pattern is a rise and then fall, which indicates a finish. A fall/ rise pattern indicates surprise and a need for a response or the fact that the speaker is not done. Flat intonation indicates a potential unwillingness to communicate. Stress is a measure of the strongest word in the sentence. Sounds join via linked speech, sound dropping, sound changing, and extra lettering.
