Unit 7 covered the future tense of the English language. This included the four forms that correlate with the past and present tenses, plus three other forms commonly used to express the future. The future tense is one of the most complex areas of the English language. These seven forms are simply the most commonly used. The seven future tense forms covered in this unit are as follows: 1. The future simple 2. The future continuous 3. The future perfect 4. The future perfect continuous 5. 'be going' plus infinitive 6. The present simple 7. The present continuous Forms 5 and 7 are the most frequently used. Forms 6 and 7 are present tense forms with future applications This unit covered the following areas for each of the 7 forms: 1. Form (grammatical structure) 2. Usage(s) 3. Extra information that is pertinent to this form (such as "shall" vs "will") 4. Typical student mistakes/errors 5. Teaching ideas The tasks for comparing usages of two different tense forms was particularly useful. I know what "feels" right, but I don't often know how to explain it. And then at that time when I try to think about it, I can become a bit cloudy on what is actually right. I can't think of a reason why a certain tense should not be used even though it sounds a bit awkward, and that just confuses the inquirer. So the clear delineation of the various usages of each tense form, plus the task work really helped me to have a better grasp of why one tense form fits a particular situation versus other forms.
