This unit spoke on the definitions, objectives, and roles of the teacher and the students. Teachers need to be able to read the situation of the classroom and decide which coursework calls for which roles. Once the teacher knows which role should be implemented, they must be able to effectively carry it out. This will ensure a helpful environment is established for the most effective learning of the students. As a teacher, I must work on being comfortable in all of these roles. I must work on constantly reading the mood in the room so as to assess if I have chosen the correct role to encourage the learning of my students. Many factors go into each individual student and what they bring to the classroom. Age, past experience, culture, and language ability will all come into play as soon as the student enters my classroom. I must actively try to read and learn about these factors in my students to better facilitate their learning and comfort in my classroom. There are pros and cons to each level of language learning. In the beginning, there will be many games and visual learning due to the students lack of knowledge. However, it will take some time before they can begin to pick up on the majority of what I am saying which can be discouraging at times for both me and the student. Higher level students tend to be more excited about their growth and therefore more motivated to continue. However, if I teach this level, I may see some students losing motivation if they feel they are not seeing as much progress as they did in the beginning levels. If I teach this level, I need to keep my eyes out for drop in motivation or confidence.
