Multiple ways to teach and learn are available to use and have been used for years. It is important to understand your group's specific needs dependent on culture, class size, comprehension levels, age, etc in order to choose what method(s) are most suited to your group. ESA (which stands for Engage, Study, and Activate) is a teaching style that has proven to be very effective and most teachers can find success by using this method. The engage portion is intended to warm up students and gettheir them speaking and thinking in English. Things lighthearted like games, videos, flashcards, and so on are popular for this part of your lesson. Your engage portion can be used as a bridge into the study section, which is best for worksheets and drills. Finally, encourage students to 'activate' their new knowledge at the end of the lesson by creating their own material. This could be stories, questions, discussions, or anything that relates to your language point being made.
It is also essential to find a balance between too many corrections and too few. Corrections should be mostly in the study portion. In order to not discourage your students, try to find and focus on positives and progress instead of mistakes.
