This unit taught me how to think about constructing effective lessons around the 3 main topics/approaches: Vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. I learned that it is best to choose only one of those to focus on in each lesson, and also what is most important to include when teaching on each of those topics (meaning, usage, form, spelling, etc). I also learned that straight arrow ESA lessons are best for teaching vocabulary and grammar, while boomerang and patchwork lessons are best for language function.
