1. The simple past is a verb tense that is used to talk about things that happened or existed before now.
2. For regular verbs, add -ed to the root form of the verb (or just -d if the root form already ends in an e)
3. The formula for asking a question in the simple past tense is did + [subject] + [root form of verb]
4. The PAST PERFECT TENSE indicates that an action was completed (finished or "perfected") at some point in the past before something else happened. This tense is formed with the past tense form of "to have" (HAD) plus the past participle of the verb (which can be either regular or irregular in form):
I had walked two miles by lunchtime.
