Unit 17 covered the usage of equipment and teaching aids to make teaching more effective. All classrooms should have a whiteboard or flip-chart for lessons. The work should be planned and organized. The plan for organizing the whiteboard should be written on paper before the lesson begins. In addition, there are interactive white boards (IWB) that allow both the teacher and students to be involved with a lesson. Aside from basic board work, it is possible to use it for interactive class games, centers, videos, and auditory pronunciation lessons. When using IWBs consider testing the system, preparing a back-up plan, training on how to use the IWB and finding the most optimal location. Use of IWBs during a lesson can allow teachers to create visually stunning lessons. Teachers can create their own lesson plans and use the IWB as a screen. Other aides include the overhead projector (OHP), visual aids, worksheets, cassette recorder, CD/DVD player, dictionaries, copiers and video recorders. For the teacher, course and resource books provide a framework from which to build a lesson. Computers are another great tool to use. They cane used in the classroom as word processors, EFL CDs, reference tools and for practice email correspondence. Online sources include videos/video clips, You Tube, podcasts, MP3s, audio clips and other online sources.
