This unit goes through the processes we have to consider when creating a lesson. The most important points I took from this unit was the formula of Engage - Study - Activate. Engaging is how we begin involving students in a particular topic by creating a personal connection for the student. It creates a stronger desire for the student to learn if they can relate to the topic personally. An example of this is, if I were teaching young children a lesson on toys I would start by saying: "what are your favorite toys?". I would use this question to bring forward ideas from the students that I could use down the road in the lesson. The next phase, Study, is focusing on an idea and giving the kids a chance to wrap their heads around it. In this phase there may be independent learning, with worksheets, or a game or activity that they would have a chance to practice. The third phase is Activate. Activate shifts learning from independent to group and I like the idea of using the Activate stage as the encouraging and reward-learning stage. Students should be encouraged to speak up in Activate and learn from one anothers' experiences. The remainder of the unit was ideas for each phase and how to incorporate beginners to advanced learners.
