This unit covered present tenses. They include preset simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Present tense is used to comment on a habit or routine, permanent situation/facts, commentaries, directions/instructions, newspaper headlines, present stories and historical sequence. Present continuous (progressive) is created by using the present simple tense of auxiliary verb 'be' with and the present participle of the main verb (verb +ing). It is used to take about progress, talk about temporary action not in progress, emphasize very frequent actions, background events in a present story, describe developing situations, and refer to a regular action/routine. The present perfect relates the past to the present and while used commonly by native speakers, it sometimes is tricky for English learners. The tense is used to talk about finished actions at an indefinite time, general experiences, completed past actions carried out at an unfinished time, something that began in the past and is still new and describing past actions with present results. The fourth is present perfect continuous which includes the auxiliary verb 'have' with 'been' and the verb +'ing'. this tense is used to communicate an incomplete and ongoing activity or to describe a recently finished , uninterrupted activity which has a present result.
