This unit was on modal verbs, passive voice and phrasal verbs.
I think modals are a commonly taught topic inEFL classes, because they are often used to make polite requests for example on the phone. Modals can express several things, for example obligation, uncertainty and ,as I mentioned, requests. A very commonly made mistake is misunderstanding the meaning in difference of must and must not. I teach German speakers and the German "need not" looks like "must not" so they are often confused with each other.
Phrasal verbs are multi-word-verbs, usually prepositions are added to words to create them. They can be transitive or intransitive and separable or inseparable.
In English there are active and passive voice. Active focuses on the doer, whereas passive focuses more on the action. Here the doer is not important. For the passive we need the past participle of the verb in order to form it.
