Teaching English is not only about teaching the grammar and the vocabulary. It is also about teaching students how to receive information. Receptive skills may include skimming, scanning, predictive, and for detailed information. Students may be reading or listening for a purpose or for pleasure. Either way, the teacher should make sure to give the students a selection of spoken or written English that is at the level of the students, so they are not intimidated by it, and they do not lose their confidence. If there are some difficult words, the teacher should go over them beforehand.
