I found this unit difficult as it is not natural for a native English speaker to be able to distinguish the difference between present perfect, simple and continuous. Identifying the form of the verb with the tense in your everyday usage is something that is very important to recognize if you are going to explain usage correctly. I think breaking it down for myself to recognize how to identify the tense, makes me brainstorm about how to teach the tenses in a natural way. So here is what I recognize: 1. Present simple is simple. There are no extra verbs; the verb isn't changing; it is the basic subject+verb sentence. 2. Present Continuous is ongoing and active. So the verb is active - ing - but the "to be" keeps it in the present. 3. Present Perfect uses the "have" helper verb. 4. Present Continuous adds active verbs to the have phrase.
