Unit 11 focused on the receptive skills of reading and listening. There are several reasons for these skills that include the following. For a purpose to achieve some particular aim or goal as well as entertainment. We read and listen with specialist skillets understand different content. They include specific information/scanning, general idea/skimming, detailed information and reading to deduce context of a word/phrase. The teaching and learning of receptive skills comes with problems. Sentence length, word length, and unfamiliar words can present problems to learners of English. These issues can be minimized by pre-teaching vocabulary, carefully selecting text, using a various topics, to create interests and completing tasks. A receptive skills lesson would be based on the skill of either reading or listening. One important aspect of this lesson would be to pre-teaching problematic vocabulary.
