There are four things that students need to do with new language: be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it is constructed, and be able to practice and produce it. Teachers must ensure that students are introduced to language in a balanced and manageable way. we can easily apply ESA methods to introduce new language. An effective teacher will think about which ESA structure is most appropriate to the class and to the language that will be introduced. A learner's receptive vocabulary is much larger than his/her productive vocabulary; the students can usually understand more words than they can actively use. There are a number of factors that determine how easy or difficult a vocabulary item may be for a student to learn: similarity to the student's own language, similarity to English words already known, spelling, pronunciation, and appropriacy. When considering which vocabulary should be taught at which learning level, the following criteria can be used: appropriacy to the students, appropriacy to the task, frequency/coverage, and teachability. The things a student needs to know about a vocabulary item are: meaning (what it means), use (how/when it is appropriate to use), word grammar (where it belongs), interaction (how it interacts and affects other words), spelling (how it is written), and pronunciation (how it is spoken). When teachers are introducing grammatical structures in lessons, the following should always be considered: meaning (what the language means), use (how and when it's used), forms/patterns (formations and patterns of the language), and spoken/written form (differences in form). Teachers also need to teach language functions such as: inviting, refusing, agreeing/disagreeing, suggesting, etc. Teaching language functions also includes the appropriacy of the language being used: formal, informal, tentative, technical, etc. It's good for students to practice language functions during the activation stage of a lesson. I learned a lot about teaching new language in unit seven. I think vocabulary, grammatical structure, and function of the English language are all very important. I learned what students need to know about vocabulary, grammatical structures, and function of the language. I also learned about the different teaching techniques used to efficiently teach new language to students. I got many good ideas on how to plan good interactive ESA lessons so learning new language is interesting and fun for all students.
