While a test can be anything from a formalized questionaire to the simple monitoring of the students´ progress, there are different categories of formal tests to assess the students´ language skills. Students could take a placement test in the beginning of a course, or a more extensive diagnostic test. During the language course, a progress test can shed light on the progress the students have made.
