Whenever the students are learning a new language, they need to be able to do 4 things with the new language. They need to be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it's constructed and be able to practice and produce it. All these phases can be done with the vocabulary. If we don't know the meaning of the word, we are not going to comprehend the lesson/language being spoken. Vocabulary needs to be taught using different kids of activities and for different purposes.
