As I've continued growing as a teacher, I've found that the amount of my talk time has diminished. In my beginning stages, I had a bad habit of avoiding conciseness when directing the classroom during my "questioning".
As I alluded to in a previous unit reflection, I didn't allocate my instances of feedback to the "study" portion of the lesson, and therefore I found myself constantly checking in with students regarding their comprehension, AND their progress.
This unit highlights the importance of using TTT wisely, checking in with students to ensure that my questions and the lesson's purpose are clear, but avoiding jargon by sticking to simple language. This is a premier aspect of my teaching that I've been working on over the past few years.
This unit, as well as the unit 3, offers clear insight into the importance of minimizing wasted TTT, and maximizing efficiency. Efficient classroom management offers an additional method of minimizing wasted TTT. While my ability to create meaningful relationships with students is something that comes naturally, I truly must focus on avoiding confusing lectures, questions, and answers to students questions. I've found that this can be addressed by preparing holistic lesson plans prior to teaching a lesson.
