There are many things that can help us create a successful lesson: wipe board, visual aids, worksheets, CDs, dictionaries, course books, etc. Which ever we choose to bring to the classroom it is essential to make a good balance between them. The same applies to authentic and non-authentic materials. In order to get the maximum use of the course book, a teacher has to make sure to match the material to students' needs and should never rely (100%) on its content. Course books are great for making a balanced lesson, and can reduce preparation time (as opposed to creating your own materials) and students expect them, but it is recommended to bring some extra materials to add to the variety.
