In this unit I learned about teaching receptive skills which include reading and listening. Both reading and listening are equally important receptive skills and should be taught as such. Receptive skills are used for a purpose or for entertainment. We use receptive skills differently depending on the need. We use it to find specific information, to get a general idea, to receive detailed information, to deduce information from context and as a predictive skill. When teaching how to use receptive skills the information presented to students should be appropriate for the language level. The information should be interesting to the students to encourage and motivate the learning process. And lastly there should be tasks to achieve using receptive skills to promote understanding of the language.
