In this chapter, I have learned about conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals are a sentence where a condition must be fulfilled for an action/main clause to be realised. There are 5 main types of conditionals. First is Zero Conditional. Zero Conditional refers to facts such as 'if you eat too much junk food, you will become fat'. Next is First Conditional. First Conditional refers to the future which is likely achievable when the condition has been fulfilled. For example 'If you study hard, you will be able to ace the exam'. Following is Second Conditional which refers to the future but only for hypothetical situations/fiction. Next is Third Conditional which refers to a hypothetical past situation, but is unable to be fulfilled in the present time. For example 'If I studied hard, I would have been able to have a better result' Lastly is Mixed Conditional. Mixed Conditional refers to a hypothetical past action which relates to a hypothetical present result.
Reported speech is the action where we pass on a message to someone else after hearing it from the sender. For example Alice says 'I am going to go swimming tomorrow.' So, the reported speech will be 'Alice says that she will be going to swim the next day.'
