The most fascinating thing that I have learnt from this unit is the information about different teacher’s roles during the class, like prompter, assessor or participant. That reminded me of my own teachers from university days, their methods and ways to pass their knowledge to the students, to motivate and test them. Now I can more easily compare their teaching styles and see why some teachers were more popular and respected than others. To be honest, I have found a good teacher/good learner section a bit subjective in a way, since there are always some exceptions, individual factors or certain situations that can call for different actions or types of behavior. I agree, however, that the teacher should always be fair with his or her students and treat them equally. The other quality worth mentioning here is the ability of a teacher to be enthusiastic about the subject and radiate this enthusiasm upon learners. The process of learning should be fun and inspirational, filled with some visual material, games and active interaction between the class and a teacher. Mutual respect and an atmosphere of friendship are probably the keys to a successful students-teacher cooperation. Also I find it challenging (in a good way) that each student age group represents a certain difficulty or a barrier that any teacher should overcome. For example, the pre-schoolers being less attentive or the peer pressure among the kids of post-puberty age or the adults with their life experience and possible stubbornness or know-it-all attitude. Those all are the challenges that the teacher should face with a smile and open heart because education is not only about the passing of knowledge to the next generation, but also about the passing of good will, creative ambition and strive for excellence in any walk of life.
